About Lake of the Ozarks Water Level

Lake of the Ozarks is one of the largest man-made lakes in the Midwest, located in central Missouri's Ozark region. Created in 1931 by the construction of Bagnell Dam on the Osage River by Union Electric Company (now Ameren Missouri), the lake spans over 54,000 acres with a staggering 1,150 miles of shoreline — more than the entire coast of California.

The lake's distinctive dragon-like shape extends through four Missouri counties: Camden, Miller, Morgan, and Benton. With a full pool elevation of 660 feet above sea level, the lake was originally built for hydroelectric power generation but has since become one of America's premier vacation destinations.

Known as the "Magic Dragon" due to its shape, Lake of the Ozarks attracts millions of visitors annually for boating, fishing, swimming, and nightlife. The lake's Party Cove was historically one of the most famous party spots in America. The area was also the setting for the popular Netflix show "Ozark."

Fishing at Lake of the Ozarks is excellent, with large populations of largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, white bass, and paddlefish. The lake hosts numerous bass tournaments and is known for trophy-sized fish. A Missouri fishing license is required.
