About Lake Texoma Water Level
Lake Texoma is one of the largest reservoirs in the United States, straddling the Texas-Oklahoma border along the Red River. Created in 1944 by the construction of Denison Dam by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the lake covers approximately 89,000 acres with 580 miles of shoreline.
The lake serves multiple purposes including flood control, hydroelectric power, water supply, and recreation. With a full pool elevation of 617 feet above sea level, Lake Texoma is a critical water source for communities in both Texas and Oklahoma. The lake attracts over 6 million visitors annually.
Lake Texoma is internationally famous for its striped bass (striper) fishing — it is one of the few inland lakes where striped bass reproduce naturally. The lake also offers excellent fishing for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, blue catfish, and crappie. The lake hosts numerous fishing tournaments throughout the year.
Popular recreation areas include Eisenhower State Park (Texas), Lake Texoma State Park (Oklahoma), and numerous marinas. The lake is ideal for sailing due to its size and consistent winds. Swimming, water skiing, and houseboating are also popular activities.
